Xepersian: beyond a mathematical typesetting tool

Abstract

Not only are many people unaware of the applications of mathematics in everyday life, but it is also a common misconception that mathematicians are a separate group from the rest of society. Despite the numerous practical applications of mathematics, the global mathematical community has developed various tools, one of which is the TeX typesetting system. TeX was founded by a mathematician, and its current Persian package, "XePersian," was prepared by a mathematics student. This article introduces XePersian, discussing its emergence and expansion, and compares it to similar systems. It also highlights the main features and some of the capabilities and associated tools that receive less attention from the mathematical community while addressing a few questions about it. Currently, many individuals and organizations use this package for typesetting Persian documents in LaTeX, and its use in the scientific community in Iran is steadily growing.
