V. Lawson, L. O'carroll and S. Rees, A tribute to David Rees, <em>Semigroup Forum</em>, <strong>88 </strong>(2014) 513--522.]   David Rees achieved recognition in three very different endeavours. For the readers of this journal, he was, of course, one of the pioneers of semigroup theory, commemorated in Rees matrix semigroups, the Rees theorem, and Rees quotients; in the wider mathematical world, he was best known as one of the leading figures in the post-war development of commutative algebra; and, finally, in the obituaries in the British press, it was his work as a code-breaker at Bletchley Park during the Second World War which attracted most attention. While in this short tribute we cannot hope to do justice to all these aspects of his life and work, we have tried to give some indication of the depth and influence of his ideas.<br /> <br />  نوشته حاضر ترجمه مقاله زیر است:<br />[M. Rees, A tribute to David Rees, <em>Semigroup Forum</em>, <strong>88 </strong>(2014) 513--522.]<br /> <br />دیوید ریس در سه حوزۀ کاملاً متفاوت برجسته بود. باتوجه به تحقیقات برجستهٔ دیوید در نیم‌گروه‌های ماتریسیِ ریس، قضیه ریس و خارج قسمت‌های ریس، می‌توان وی را یکی از پیشگامان نظریۀ نیم‌گروه‌ها دانست. همچنین او یکی از چهره‌های پیشرو در توسعهٔ جبر جا‌بجایی در دوران پس از جنگ بود. سرانجام، کار رمزگشایی‌ وی در بلچی پارک در خلال جنگ جهانی دوّم، بیشترِ توجّهات را به خود جلب کرد. به همین دلیل، هنگام درگذشت دیوید مطبوعات بریتانیا با چاپ آگهی‌هایی، با احترام فراوان از وی یاد کردند. در این مقاله تلاش نموده‌ایم با بررسی همهٔ جنبه‌های مهمّ زندگی شخصی و کاری او، عمق و نتایج اصلی نظریه‌هایش را بیان کنیم. https://math-sci.ui.ac.ir/article_20431_8a14d0eefc512fa0fc1db03d79d81d5d.pdf
